Fear of fuel shortage causes disorder across Lebanese gas stations

Unprecedented scene at Lebanese gas stations. A large number of citizens gathered in front of petrol stations in different parts of Lebanon to fill their cars for fear of the fuel crisis, which Fadi Abu Chakra talked about and warned of if the strike carried out by customs employees continues.

His claims were quickly repressed by the head of the Syndicate Sami Brax, who assured that no crisis is happening. “There is no need to frighten people and cause a panic,” he said.

In a statement, the Syndicate requested from the customs employees to lift their strike to ensure that “operations proceed smoothly and spare Lebanon from any possibility of a shortage of fuel.”

Although oil tankers delivered fuel to Lebanon's port, distributors have not been able to carry these loads and transport them to gas stations. This has caused lack of supply, raising concerns of a possible runoff in the next 24 hours.

Fortunately, the fear didn’t last long. Oil importers resumed delivery of fuel after Lebanese customs suspended the strike. Large amounts of gasoline were brought down and all petrol stations were supplied with oil derivatives.

In her turn, the Minister of Energy and Water Nada Boustani, contacted the Director General of Customs, Badri Dahir, and said he showed great collaboration, and therefore there will be no fuel crisis in the country.
