Total Eren announced the sale of 34% of its shares in a wind project in southern Argentina to the Japanese investment company Mitsui.

“Mitsui acquires a 34% stake in Total Eren's Vientos Los Hercules wind power plant through MIT Argentina Generation Holding Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui,” said a statement.

The plant, currently under construction in the province of Santa Cruz in southern Argentina, is expected to be operational mid-2019.

With a planned capacity of 97.2 megawatts (MW), it is expected to produce 400 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year and supply 110 000 households, said Total Eren.

“Vientos Los Hercules represents our first large-scale wind project in Argentina and more widely in Latin America, a strategic region where we have successfully built a portfolio of 320 MW of renewable energy assets in just five years”, says in delight Fabienne Demol, Development Director for Total Eren.

Total Eren, 23% owned by oil giant Total since September 2017, specializes in the development of wind, solar and hydroelectric power projects.

Its objective is to reach a net global installed capacity of more than 3 GW by 2022.
