Halliburton: A strong tech player in the MENA region

/ News & Interviews / Tuesday, 31 December 2019 07:58

Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. The company helps its customers maximize value throughout the lifecycle of the reservoir – from locating hydrocarbons and managing geological data, to drilling and formation evaluation, well construction and completion, and optimizing production throughout the life of the asset.

In an exclusive interview with Energy Review MENA, Ahmed Kenawi, Senior Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa region at Halliburton comments on the company’s focus for the upcoming year as well as its contribution to the digital era.

How does Halliburton help customers forge a new era of digital transformation in the oil and gas industry? What are the solutions it offers?

At Halliburton, we collaborate with customers to engineer solutions that maximize their asset value. Two key points enable us to do so: the first is we work with the customers on increasing their production and lowering their costs. For example, after utilizing our Voice of the Oilfield approach, a combination of digital innovations in cloud computing, data analytics and edge devices, , we can automatically control electric submersible pumps during production to increase recovery and minimize downtime. Halliburton can also help reduce costs by using digital technologies in maintenance programs to predict potential issues and increasing reliability. Our digital strategy relies on three attributes: open architecture, a structure that makes changing or adding components easy, the ability to evolve with innovation over time and a business case that delivers clear value.

Can you describe to us the importance of SPECTRUM Fusion and how it operates?

SPECTRUM Fusion is a new technology for coiled tubing where we can diagnose the reservoir with multiple components. By using a 360° camera to see all the surroundings, fiber optics can measure distributed temperature and distributed pressure to retrieve downhole information and then stimulate the reservoir to increase production. We can combine our portfolio of spectrum technologies with standard coiled tubing applications and downhole tools to obtain critical well data and deliver a customized intervention solution.

Halliburton celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. What was the key to this big success?

Our people. From everyone who has worked for us over the last 100 years to those with us today, we are successful because of our employee’s dedication and commitment to superior service quality. Our past inspires us and leads us to the future and our next chapter. What distinguishes us is that we deliver on our promises to customers.

Where do you plan to expand and what are your 2020 goals?

We operate across the Middle East and Africa to help our customers maximize their asset value throughout the oilfield lifecycle. Our goal remains to expand our project management capabilities, increase the deployment of proven unconventional technologies across the region, grow our intervention business across multi-wells and continue developing our digital operations.
