Roundup: The 5th Egypt Petroleum Show gathers over 450 exhibitors and multiple global leaders

Held under the patronage of Egypt’s President, H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi, supported by the ministry of petroleum and mineral  Resources, the fifth edition of EGYPS 2022, under the theme “North Africa and the Mediterranean: Delivering Energy Today”, took place from 14-16 February 2022 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre.

The three-day leading energy exhibition and conference in North Africa and the Mediterranean region launched a year of strategic energy dialogue to map out the transition of the oil, gas, and energy industry towards sustainability. It is considered to be the largest and most important international and regional gathering of the oil and gas industry in North Africa and the Mediterranean Sea.

The 5th Egypt Petroleum Show gathered more than 450 exhibitors from over 20 countries in Cairo to seek business and identify solutions to reshape the global energy market.

The conference will host 11 international energy ministers, 19 CEOs, and 8 secretary generals who will discuss long-term energy transition objectives in relation to regional energy markets' goals of self-sufficiency and sustainability in the short-term.

Energy Ministers took part in ministerial panels discussing changing energy dynamics including Egypt’s minister of petroleum and mineral resources, Tarek El Molla, the Cypriot Minister of energy commerce and industry, Natasa Pilides, the Jordanian minister of energy and mineral resources, Dr. Saleh Al Kharabsheh, Djibouti’s minister of energy and natural resources, Yonis Ali Guedi, the Yemeni minister of oil and minerals republic of Yemen, Abdul Salam Baaboud, chairman palestinian energy & natural resources authority, Zafer Melhem, the Senegalese minister of petroleum and energies, Dr. Aissatou Sophie Gladima. The event also witnessed the attendance of Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Guinea’s minister of mines and hydrocarbons, Timipre Sylva, Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum resources and Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, minister of energy and infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates.

In addition to ministerial presence, EGYPS plays host to a record number of international energy association leaders including Dr. Fatih Birol, executive director of international energy agency (IEA), Mohammad Barkindo, secretary-general organization of the petroleum exporting countries (OPEC), Ali Sabt BenSabt, secretary-general organisation of arab petroleum exporting countries (OAPEC), Osama Mobarez, secretary-general of east mediterranean gas forum (EMGF), Amb. Nasser Kamel, secretary, general of the union for the mediterranean (UfM), Omar Farouk Ibrahim, secretary general of african petroleum producers’ organization (APPO), Joseph McMonigle, secretary-general of the international energy forum (IEF), and Dr. Houda Ben Jannet Allal, the general director of Observatoire méditerranéen de l’energie (OME).

The Egyptian ministry of petroleum and mineral resources estimated that the total investments in the oil and Gas sectors from 2014 to 2020 hit 74 billion U.S. dollars in Egypt.

Egypt aims to become a regional hub for the trade of oil and liquefied natural gas after major discoveries were made in recent years, including the Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean which holds an estimated 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.
